Hassun: A selection of hors d’ouevres.
Mukouzuke: Sashimi.
Wanmori: A simmered dish.
Takiawase: A dish in which meats and vegetables simmered with various seasonings are served on a single platter.
Sunomono: A cold dish seasoned with vinegar.
Yaki-zakana: Fried fish.
Tome-zakana: Usually a lightly seasoned dish to refresh the palate. This course indicates that it is time to set aside the sake.
Gohan: Rice, soup, and pickles.
Mizugashi, etc.: Fruit.
Tabehajime: A Japanese ceremony performed 100 days after an infant is born. The eating of a meal is pantomimed for the infant, as a way of praying that they will never want for food as long as they live.
